2018 BABOK 3.0 IIBA Professional Certifications Study Group Sessions Start June 19

By Tom Vosburg, VP of Education

A new series starts on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 7pm. Participants would meet on the first and third Tuesdays of each month for a total of 12 sessions.  Our goal for the series will be to review the complete BABOK V3.0 and supporting materials.  Study groups meet through our web conferencing facility. There is no need to drive anywhere to join in!

Study group participation is included with your membership in IIBA Denver Chapter.  Non-members are also welcome to register for a price of USD150. Click here for more information about joining IIBA Denver Chapter.

The Value of Certification

Earning and maintaining IIBA certification is a journey that provides value in many ways. Once earned, certification proves to employers you have a solid understanding of industry accepted best BA practices. It also tells hiring managers something else about you - that you are committed to your profession, invest in your on-going development, and are a member of a professional community and network.

IIBA’s Multi-level Certification Program

IIBA offers several different levels of certifications to support Business Analysts at every stage in their career.

Current IIBA certificates and certifications available through include:

  • Level 1:  Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA).  Recognizes individuals entering the field of business analysis.  Requires passing an exam, but no business analysis experience.
  • Level 2: Certified Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA)  Recognizes BA professionals who have 2-3 years of business analysis experience.
  • Level 3:  Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) Recognizes BA professionals who manage and lead with over 5 years of business analysis experience.

How We’ll Study Together.

We’ll use the BABOK 3.0 as our primary reference – all study group participants should get their own copy (free to IIBA members – also available to non-members through booksellers).  We’ll also make use of study group support materials developed by IIBA, as well as practice exam questions and other 3rd party certification preparation resources available to members through the IIBA Learning Library.

For the most part, each session will focus on a single chapter of the BABOK (a couple of chapters will require more than one session).  Participants should review the selected chapter and related materials before the session and come prepared with any questions they have or key insights they’d like to discuss with the group.  We’ll take turns being the facilitator for each session (we’ll provide a signup sheet).  The facilitator doesn’t have to be an expert on the material to be covered (none of us are – that’s why we’re studying), but they’ll introduce the material and frame key concepts and questions for discussion.

To sign up to join the study group send your name and contact information to CBAPStudyGroup@denver.iiba.org .  You will receive registration information (if needed) and instructions for joining the conference calls.  And if Tuesdays are not a good fit, let us know that too.  Adjustments can be made, depending on the number and preferences of interested participants.
